JWT Decoder

Decode JSON Web Tokens (JWT) client-side. Inspect algorithm, payload claims, expiration timestamps, and signatures securely.

100% Client-Side Privacy: Your token is decoded entirely in browser memory. It is never logged or sent to any server.

What is a JSON Web Token (JWT)?

A JSON Web Token (JWT) is an open standard (RFC 7519) that defines a compact and self-contained way for securely transmitting information between parties as a JSON object.

A JWT consists of three parts separated by dots (.):

  • Header: Identifies the signing algorithm (e.g., HS256, RS256) and token type.
  • Payload: Contains the claims (e.g. user ID, roles, permissions, expiration date).
  • Signature: Cryptographic hash used by the server to verify the token was not tampered with.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, 100% safe. ClickBasic decodes the base64url strings directly in your local browser JavaScript engine. No token data, bearer tokens, or user claims are sent to any remote server or stored anywhere.

Yes! JWT tokens are signed, not encrypted. Anyone who has the token can read the header and payload claims because they are simply base64url-encoded. The secret key is only required to generate and verify the signature.
